Decatur Busted Booking Records
Decatur is the Macon County seat and its biggest city. The 2020 Census counted 70,522 residents. The jail, the sheriff, the courthouse, and Decatur Police all sit at the center of county life. Yet none of them share a single record system. City arrests get made and documented by the police department. County custody gets logged by the sheriff's Corrections division when someone is booked into the Macon County Jail. That split shapes any search built around the phrase Decatur mugshots. A city incident may never generate a county booking entry, and a county booking can stem from an arrest by a different agency entirely. So name each record by the agency that produced it.
The sheriff's public inquiry shows administrative facts only. You get a name, a booking or subject number, a custody flag, date fields, the facility, and a Photo result column. A booking picture is an identification image tied to that record and nothing more. Frame a Decatur entry as an arrest or booking reported by the named agency, and keep the date you accessed it. Someone released, transferred, or held elsewhere may drop off the current roster. A gap in the data settles nothing about how a case ended.
For the city side, start with the official Decatur Police Department page. It offers department information, records links, and contact details.
The linked official page maps the department's public route rather than any booking-photo gallery. Person-level images stay with the originating agency or jail, whenever such a record is releasable at all.
Where Decatur Busted Records Appear
Decatur arrest material lives in several places, and each source answers a different question. A roster tracks custody and booking. A police page covers city incidents and reports. Citizen Connect offers delayed public incident and case data. News outlets and third-party pages pick and republish what suits them, so official rows come first.
| Channel | Record or photo | Authority and access limit |
|---|---|---|
| Decatur Police Department | Incident or arrest report; a police-held image may be requestable. No public city mugshot roster was verified. | Official municipal source. Use the department's records and FOIA routes. |
| Macon County Inmate Inquiry | Booking result can show Photo, Name, Subject Number, In Custody, Scheduled Release Date, Race, Gender, Height, Weight, Multiple Bookings, and Facility. | Official-linked county system. Search by name, numbers, facility, and date; cadence and persistence are unpublished. |
| Citizen Connect | No mugshot. Public incident and case context from Decatur Police and the sheriff. | Official joint map. The current day is delayed until the next day, sensitive incidents are omitted, and exact addresses are generalized. |
| Macon County Sheriff IL app | Inmate Search access is advertised. Photo display and an individual-arrest push feed are not confirmed. | Official sheriff app listing. Verify any result in the underlying county inquiry. |
| Illinois DOC search | Separate state custody or parole record, with its own public fields and photo rules. | Official state source. It is not the ordinary Decatur or county pretrial booking channel. |
| Decatur Radio blotter | Selected arrest and charge stories. A story may mention county booking and use stock or editorial art. | Local news, not a complete roster or guaranteed photo feed. |
| Herald & Review, WAND, WICS/WRSP, WCIA, and NowDecatur | Selected local or regional stories. No dedicated Decatur mugshot feed was verified. | Secondary coverage. Some landing pages were access-limited; check the individual story and named official source. |
| Busted Newspaper, RecentlyBooked, and Mugshots.com | Unofficial Macon County listing or archive pages. They are not verified Decatur-specific sections. | Use only as secondary leads. Coverage can be stale or incomplete; no faces or listings are reproduced. |
A Macon County label alone does not make a third-party page about Decatur. An access-limited outlet may run a Decatur story. A missing article or photo proves nothing about whether a booking happened. Confirm through official custody and court sources.
Finding Decatur Busted Bookings
Start any lookup with the question you actually need answered. Current custody, a past booking, a city incident, and a later court result are four different records. The countywide rundown in Macon County's public-record hub uses the same source order. Decatur adds the municipal police and Citizen Connect as extra checks.
- Write down the person's full name, the likely arrest date, and whether the event was handled by Decatur Police or another agency. A name alone is not identity proof.
- Search the county inquiry by name, subject number, booking number, or a narrow Booking From and Booking To range. Select Macon County Jail when the facility choice is available.
- Use the In Custody filter only for a current-custody question. For a recent booking, leave that filter open because a person can be booked and released before a later search.
- Compare the subject number, booking number, facility, booking date, custody flag, and scheduled release value. Do not use race, gender, height, or weight alone to identify someone.
- Check Decatur Police records or Citizen Connect for the incident, then request the precise report from the custodian. Use the Circuit Clerk or Judici for the later case and disposition.
When nothing appears, say just that. No public result showed under the filters and access date you used. The entry could be delayed, outside the visible history, transferred, withheld, or held by another agency. It is not proof that no arrest occurred.
Decatur Police Records and FOIA
For a city incident or a police-held arrest report, Decatur Police is the right custodian. For a Macon County Jail booking sheet, custody record, or booking photo, go to the county sheriff instead. Both records can describe one event from different angles. Name the agency, the date, the incident or booking number, and the exact record you want. The Decatur FOIA form steers requesters toward specific city-record requests. It publishes no city-specific booking-photo fee schedule, though.

Use the sheriff's FOIA route for county jail records and booking-photo questions.
The sheriff's FOIA materials promise a response to a specific request within five working days, with notice if an extension applies. The first 50 black-and-white pages are free, legal-size copies run at most 15 cents per page, and color or non-letter/legal copies cost actual cost. Electronic recording and reasonable copying fees may apply too. Ask about any digital-photo charge before you authorize it.
Note: A narrow request for one booking event is easier to process than a broad demand for every Macon County mugshot, and it cuts avoidable cost and delay.
Decatur Citizen Connect: A Busted Lead
Citizen Connect launched April 2, 2026. Decatur Police and the Macon County Sheriff's Office run it together. The tool maps incidents and cases across the city. Filters cover date, agency, and category. Used over a recent stretch, it can suggest roughly when something happened and which agency handled it, which helps sharpen a later records request.
It is not a mugshot source. It is not a booking roster either. The current day stays hidden until the next day. Sensitive incidents get left out, and exact addresses collapse to a block or grid. A marker without a booking entry doesn't rule out custody. A jail entry without a marker may just reflect the map's lag or its exclusions. The official Citizen Connect page shows the city-facing side of the tool, without any person-level booking result.
Citizen Connect helps as background. Use it when you're chasing a Decatur record lead, but treat it as a starting point. The county's own inquiry and the records office that holds the files still have the final say on custody details and any images they can release.
When Decatur Booking Photos Appear
No official Macon County source posts booking photos on a set schedule. No rule spells out how long the images stay up either. The roster's date fields let you check a single day or a stretch of days. Even so, neither approach guarantees a complete or current list around the clock.
Illinois statute does set one related clock. Under 5 ILCS 140/2.15, covered arrest reports must be provided as soon as practicable, and no later than 72 hours after the arrest, within the law's exceptions. That deadline covers arrest-report information only. It doesn't turn the Tyler/New World inquiry into a live photo feed, and it doesn't force every image online.
| Check | Useful for | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Same-day inquiry | A quick check of the public interface for a known name or number. | An empty result is not proof that no arrest happened. |
| Multi-day date range | Finding a delayed or later-indexed booking entry. | The portal does not publish a full history, cutoff, or delay standard. |
| In Custody filter | Seeing entries marked current when the search is run. | It can omit someone released or transferred before the check. |
| FOIA booking report | Requesting the relevant intake, charge, custody, or photo record. | Release depends on exemptions, redactions, costs, and the record held. |
Read the roster's fields with care. A "Scheduled Release Date" is only a projection. The "In Custody" flag reflects one moment in time. If someone moves into Illinois Department of Corrections custody later, the IDOC search answers a state-level question, and it should never stand in as the Decatur booking source.
After a Decatur Booking
Once jail intake is done, the story shifts from custody to court. The Macon County Circuit Clerk keeps the local criminal case files, and Judici's Macon County search can surface a case number, the exact charge wording, hearing dates, and an eventual disposition when the entry is public. A disposition is simply the outcome the court records. It might be a dismissal, a plea, a reduced charge, supervision, probation, a conviction, or something else, and the precise label belongs on the docket.
Keep the timeline straight, too. A bond payment or release doesn't close the case. A jail roster entry never carries the final result. Court indexing often lags behind the booking date, and some cases are sealed, expunged, filed under a different name spelling, or simply outside the public search's reach. When the outcome matters, match the court case number and its dates rather than treating a jail screen as the whole record.
Decatur News and Third-Party Records
Decatur Radio's police blotter is the clearest local news route. It may report a Decatur incident, cite a Macon County Sheriff source, and note a county booking. It makes no claim of listing every arrest, though. The story art is often a stock siren photo rather than a booking shot. The Herald & Review and WAND both sit behind access limits, so their cadence and photo habits can't be confirmed. WICS/WRSP, WCIA, and NowDecatur may pitch in with regional coverage. None has a verified Decatur mugshot feed either.
Then come the unofficial aggregators. Busted Newspaper, RecentlyBooked, and Mugshots.com all carry Macon County pages. RecentlyBooked advertises a 30-day scope with multiple daily updates. Mugshots.com leans on an archive-style layout. None of that makes a Decatur entry authoritative, and Busted Newspaper is not the sheriff's feed. Confirm any lead with the county inquiry, Decatur Police, or the court. Never copy faces or build a gallery from a third-party page.
For the wider media angle, Mugshots in the News ties these outlets to the official record trail. A news story is context. A missing story doesn't mean a booking never happened.
